When you are struggling to get bit and you know there are fish around it is always a tough decision on what to do. You could keep trying, hoping they turn on or go find other fish.

Today was one of those days. My friend Allen and I set out on a scouting mission on Oneida Lake. We hit some normal spots and could see walleye on the graph.

Using our normal baits, nothing was happening. I was debating moving when Allen tied on a bucktail jig. Bucktails were the go-to bait for years when it came to catching walleyes on Oneida Lake but recently have been overshadowed by the new baits.

Well, they did all the work today. Allen started getting them and I made the switch. It wasn’t long before we had a boat limit in the live well. Hopefully this pattern holds up as it has been a bit of a struggle to put good fish in the boat this year. That never stops me from trying though.

Well the charter season has finally arrived. My first trip of the year was with Danny and his son Hunter. While we didn’t exactly light them up they did manage to land 6 eyes and 6 nice perch. They jigged hard and never gave up. Always fun fishing with you guys! Looking forward to your next trip with me.

As I sit here watching it rain and listening to the wind blow, all I can think about is walleye season will be here soon. With only a few short weeks before the season opens, now is the time to get your trip booked as prime dates are filling fast.

The mild winter made working in the garage more enjoyable. I have spent time preping lures, relining reels, purchasing and organizing tackle, and making improvements to the boat.

2024 is going to be a great season. With an ice season that was short and tough, to say the least, there were many walleye that were not caught this winter. They are still out there just waiting to be caught during the open water season.

This morning when we left the dock it was 28 degrees. Funny how you don’t notice how cold it is when the fish are biting. And biting they were. Not a crazy bite but good enough to boat 6 eyes and a dozen and a half perch. Most fish were caught on jigging raps in various colors. Unfortunately my client was a little camera shy today, so no picture of him just the fish.

There is still time to get out before the snow flies. Call me to book trip today.

Today the Murphy boys were back in town for one last trip on Oneida. Tom and his son Tom, aka smurf, fish with me a few times a year, and as always today was another fun adventure with them.


I really thought today was going to be a jigging day. However when we reached our spot where the fish had been the last couple of weeks, were gone. So off we went searching.


At the end of the day we put together a nice mixed bag of perch and walleyes.
Thanks again guys and I’m looking forward to fishing with you again next year.

2023 Rates

Unfortunately, with the cost of everything still on the rise, I have no choice but to raise my rates for 2023. I have been debating this for months and decided to raise them by only $50.

I am trying my best to keep my prices fair and affordable for everyone. If you shop around you will find I am not the cheapest but also not the most expensive. The best part is if you book with a deposit before May 1st, you can lock in your trip at the 2022 rate. You can also buy a gift certificate now at the 2022 rate and choose the date of your trip later on.

The fall is one of the best times to fish Oneida Lake. The lake fishes well all season but when the fall comes the walleyes put on the feed bag in preparation for winter. This time of year trolling crankbaits produces a lot of action most days.

It is safe to say the fall bite is here and will only continue to get better as the cooler weather arrives. I will be running trips until the snow flies. I have been busy running trips most days of the week. The only thing consistent has been the early bite. Getting on the water first thing has been critical.

Each day the bite has been different but every day it has been best early. Many days we are putting fish in the boat trolling then finishing the day jigging. Other days the trolling bite has been good enough to put a limit in the boat.

Limits aren’t hitting the net every trip but plenty of fish are. Some days the bite us really good and we limit early. Other days it has been tougher and we fish hard to get as many as possible during our time on the water.

This year’s theme has been teaching. Many of my trips have been people looking to learn. I am always willing to share my knowledge and help fellow anglers.

Walleye fishing on Oneida Lake has been good. We are getting fish trolling and jigging. Each day one produces better than the other but most days both have produced.

Fishing is not lights out constant limits but it has been steady. Some days we have struggled but still put fish in the boat. Other days the fishing has been nothing short of fantastic.

Walleye season is finally here.

Well after what seemed like a long winter open water season is finally here. Opening week has not disappointed and it’s obvious Oneida is going to fish very well again this year.

The state changed the limit and you are now allowed to take 5 of these delicious fish home for dinner. I do clean your fish for you at the end of the trip as well.

Opening day I had a chance to fish with my long time friend Louie. We put a hurting on them fishing blade baits and jigs. This weekend I am have a charter and a tournament so look for an update on Monday.
