Weekend Oneida Lake Fishing Report 6/22/20

The mayfly hatch was in full swing this past weekend. If you are familiar with Oneida Lake walleye fishing then you know that means its time to troll the mud flats.

I had a great trip with Mike, Derek, and Ryan catching walleye and perch on spinners in 30 to 40 feet of water. Trolling a spinner and a worm took the majority of the bites. Jigging the typical baits such as blade baits and bucktails is also taking some eyes.

I have dates available if you want to get out and catch some fish. You won’t find better eating freshwater fish then walleye and perch.

Oneida Lake weekend walleye fishing

Saturday I had the pleasure of taking out Carrie and her kids Delaney and Derek. It was a special trip for Derek as it was his birthday.

Unfortunately for the kids it was a slow day for us. We marked a lot of fish but had trouble getting them to go. We did manage a few keepers and a bunch of shorts. Not getting more keepers definitely bothered me more than the kids. They had a blast being on the boat and reeling in fish even if they weren’t big enough to keep.

Sunday it was like someone flipped a switch and I was glad because it was tournament day. We went back to the same place I had marked the fish the day before. This time they bit and bit very well.

Trolling crankbaits was the ticket Sunday. I was fortunate to have a great tournament partner, Craig Francis. He is a trolling machine.

We weighed in 13.22 pounds which was enough for the win. This was Craig’s first win and I was very happy to be part of it.

If you want to get out on Oneida Lake walleye fishing give me a call. Dates are starting to fill up so don’t wait.

Casting for Walleye

Don and Matt called asking about a walleye fishing charter. They didn’t want to troll. The reason they wanted a trip was to learn how to catch walleye on Onieda Lake casting. I told them no problem.

Either I am a good teacher or they are excellent students. It didn’t take long at all for them to pick up the technique. Once they had it down the quickly put a limit of nice walleye in the livewell.

Is there a walleye fishing technique you want to learn? If so give me a call and we will get a trip set up for you do so exactly that.

Splash down

Yesterday afternoon the weather was beautiful and Lake Ontario was flat. With the launch open and the icebergs gone it was time to take the boat out for a test run just to make sure everything was in good working order before the season really kicks off.

Everything is good to go and it is time. I am now booking brown trout trips until walleye season begins. If you want to get out give me a call.

Yesterday Wayne and I set up and made 2 quick passes. We had multiple hits putting a few smaller browns and one big bass in the net. Unfortunately we didn’t locate any of the large browns we were hoping for but we were happy for the limited time we were on the water.

Oneida Lake Fishing Report 11/2/19

Ron and Brian came up from Pennsylvania to join me for an afternoon of walleye fishing on Oneida Lake. Ron had come up for a morning of trolling earlier in the year. This trip we decided to change it up and do some jigging.

The rain on Thursday left much of the east end of Onieda Lake muddy. Even with less than ideal conditions Ron and Brian had no trouble putting a limit in the livewell and releasing many other keeper size fish.

A big thank you to Ron and Brian not only for their business but for being willing to adapt and overcome the conditions. It was an amazing trip and I look forward to fishing with them in the future.

We will have plenty of good open water fishing left before the lake freezes. If you want to get out and get after some nice walleyes give me a call.

Today I had Ron on the boat and we were hoping for the same hot bite I had last weekend. Unfortunately today that was not the case.

The temperature was chilly and the bite was a bit of a grind. We stuck to the program and managed to put 9 in the net including one double before the trip was over.

Ron went home with a limit of walleye and a smile.

I will continue to fish until the lake is froze over. If you want to get out give me a call. I have 4 and 6 hour trips available for up to 3 people.

A Great Weekend On Oneida Lake Walleye Fishing

I had a great weekend fishing with the Evan’s. David, Chrissy and Jaxon had such a good time catching walleyes on Saturday that they decided to go again on Sunday. Sunday was a carbon copy of Saturday with another limit coming in the boat. What a great weekend spent with a great family. Trolling crankbaits was the ticket as it often is this time of year. There is still time to get in on the awesome fall fishing. Give me a call to set up a trip.

Oneida Lake Fishing Report 8/6/19

It has been a busy few days. Sunday I fished the Oneida Lake Team Walleye Tournament. We had great expectations going into the tournament as our prefishing was excellent. Come Sunday we fell a little short finishing 9th out of 28 teams. We boated at least 30 to 40 keeper walleyes just couldn’t get one more big one that we needed to be in the money.

Yesterday I fished the Monday night bass tournament with Wayne. We started out fishing largemouth bass but when we found a school of good smallies tactics changed quickly. Out 3 fish bag was 9.87 pounds landing is in 2nd place out of 21 teams.

Today I was back after walleye for a 4 hour charter. It was another day of putting an easy limit in the boat for my guests. Jim and Frieda were great. Thank you both for the fun morning.

Trolling worm harnesses has been absolutely on fire the past couple of weeks.

If you want to get out on Oneida Lake and put some walleyes in your freezer give me a call. I even clean your fish at the end of the trip if you want.

Take a kid fishing

When I started my Oneida Lake Walleye charter there was one aspect I didn’t realize how much fun it would be doing family trips like the one I had on Monday.  It was father and his two kids. Seeing those kids smile as they caught fish after fish made my day. We ended up with 11 walleye and 2 big perch.

Seeing them catch those fish made me realize walleye are the perfect fish for most kids to target on a charter.  Chances are a 15 to 20+” walleye will be the longest fish they have caught. Let’s face it walleye are sought out for their table far not their fight so even younger kids can have fun catching a very big to them fish.

Oneida Lake walleye are often very happy to provide steady action keeping kids entertained. Keeping them entertained is the most important part of taking a kid fishing after all.  My boat is set up to be very safe for kids. (see pictures in the gallery) While Oneida Lake can get very rough at times, most days there is calm water to fish at one end or the other.

If you want to get your kid out for something larger than sunfish that will taste great for dinner that night give me a call and get a trip booked today.

Oneida Lake Report 7/23/19

I had a 4 hour charter Tuesday. We started off trolling and caught a couple but the floating weeds were too much to deal with. Constantly getting caught on our lines.

We needed to do something different.
So off to casting a weed bed where the pickerel and eyes were hungry.

Mason and Kloe finished off there limits casting along the weed edges. When the day ended Mason had caught his personal best walleye and Kloe her first walleyes ever.

Walleye fishing on Oneida lake is still hot hot hot. If you want to get in on the action give me a call. I will be on the water most of the up coming week and am available for trips.
